Fagaras is a town located halfway between the much more famous cities of Sibiu and Braov , close to the impressive Fagaras Mountains. Its most important attraction is the impressive medieval fortress . Already in the 14th century, the first stone castle was erected on the site of the former wooden fortifications.

Over the next years, it was gradually expanded, and the last, larger renovation, the effects of which we can admire to this day, took place in the 17th century. At that time, it was one of the largest and most powerful castles in Transylvania. In the 18th century, it was transformed into a barracks, due to which the rich Renaissance interiors were neglected and partially destroyed. During the Second World War, interned Polish soldiers were imprisoned here. Currently, the impressive fortress, surrounded by a deep moat, is open to tourists. It houses a museum and a library. The area around the fortress is a nice park - a perfect place for walks. It is also worth paying attention to the new, but richly decorated church.

For whom?

If you're interested in medieval castles , don't miss the impressive Fagaras Fortress. Tourists who travel between Sibiu and Brasov should definitely stop and visit the museum here. Historians interested in Polish traces abroad can learn about the fate of their compatriots imprisoned here during World War II.

Hotel Bulevard

We couldn't find any reasonable accommodation in Brasov, so we decided to stay at the Bulevard Hotel and head there first thing in the morning. He surprised us very positively. You can see that it is a relatively new building. A very good standard room, friendly service, and a tasty and plentiful breakfast in the morning. Quite a reasonable price for such a standard, and it is located right next to the historic castle.

Elegant House

Theoretically it is a guesthouse, but for me it is practically a hotel. The room was spacious, comfortable and modernly decorated. It is located in the city center, so close to the main attractions, but at the same time hidden from the main, busy street. Very nice and always smiling staff, tasty breakfast, free private parking. You don't need anything else to be happy.

Pensiunea SADA

A great guesthouse, the standard of which was better than many hotels. Very nice and stylish room. Big plus that they allowed us to check in early. Thanks to this, we left our things in the room, the car in the parking lot and calmly went to visit the castle, which is right next to it. I highly recommend this place.

San Grecu House

Very nice accommodation, located close to the center and the main attractions of the city. For us, it was a great option as a base and to get to know the area better. The standard of the apartment was high, and everything was perfectly prepared and cleaned. As an added bonus, there is a great cafe downstairs.

Liberty Rooms

A very good hotel, located slightly out of the way of the town. But on the other hand, it took us max. to walk to the castle or the market square. 15 min, or at least it was quiet and peaceful. The room was very large and pleasantly decorated. The building is quite new and everything is nicely laid out and well maintained. A plus for a fridge in the room and a private closed parking lot. A very good option and reasonable price.
