Kourou in French Guiana served for many years as a reception place for convicts . Same with the rest of the city in this country - Saint-Laurent . When the penitentiary colonies were closed, in 1964 the government in France decided to build a huge space station from which rockets were launched. The entire spaceport can be visited and is one of the greatest attractions in all of French Guiana. The whole atmosphere of this place is reminiscent of Houston, Texas, which is the American space service center.

For whom?

Kourou is an interesting place for fans of space and astronomy. In addition to the cosmodrome itself, there are also some interesting sandy beaches here, but most tourists go to the island of Iles du Salut .
