Iles du Salut in French Guiana is literally the Island of Salvation . The entire archipelago consists of three tiny islands - Ile du Diable, Ile Royale and Ile St Joseph. From the Napoleonic times, they served as a prison, and from 1852 until 1947, 80,000 prisoners passed through the island. Many of them died as a result of diseases and due to poor conditions. There is now a museum on the island that is located on Ile Royale.

For whom?

Iles de Salut is a former condemned island, so if you like such atmosphere, it is worth visiting. To get to the island you have to spend around 50 Euro (boat from Kourou and back).
