Yasuni National Park (Parque Nacional Yasuní) is the largest protected area of mainland Ecuador. It covers an area of one million hectares , located in the north-east of the country. Scientists consider it to be one of the most valuable areas of this type in the world, mainly because of the great biodiversity.

It is overgrown with a humid tropical forest , which is home to a large number of plant species (e.g. 655 different species of trees have been identified in an area of 1 hectare) and animals (including jaguar, anaconda, monkeys, etc. and 130 globally endangered species ). It is for these reasons that Yasuni was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1989. Interestingly, there are large oil deposits in the park. However, mining it would destroy the fragile ecosystem of the rainforest. Therefore, appropriate measures have been taken to protect both the resources underground and nature.
For whom?
Yasumi is a nature paradise. Therefore, if you want to see the most biodiverse place in the world , you have to go there. Several tour operators and over a hundred qualified guides operate in the park. Under their supervision, you will be able to safely explore this fascinating corner of Ecuador.
