On the shores of Lake Skadar, at the foot of the Albanian Alps, lies the largest city in northern Albania , namely Shkodër . For many years it was not a very attractive point on the map of this Balkan country. However, thanks to the investments made in it, tourists began to really appreciate it. Many monuments, interesting museums and viewpoints await them there. Above all, however, Shkodra gives a pretty good insight into the history, culture and traditions of Albania .

For whom?

Shkodra is the first city visited by tourists entering Albania from the north. For most, it is a short stop on the way south, but more and more often it is also chosen as a base for exploring this part of the country . It is close from here to Thethi , located among the Albanian Alps, to the phenomenal Lake Komani and Lake Skadar, or to the sandy beaches of Velipoj . However, Shkoder itself is also remarkable. The renovated old town, the newly created museum of photography or the ruins of Rozafa Castle allow you to get to know Albania a little better. Shkodra will especially appeal to those who like to visit and learn about history surrounded by magnificent views.

Lake Shkodra Resort

Already when I was driving to Shkodra, I knew that I wanted to spend the night at the Lake Shkodra Resort campsite, located right on the shore of the lake. First of all, it is a place for people who want to be close to nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can come here with your own tent/camper/trailer or decide to rent a house (e.g. in a tree) or a glamping tent. There is also a beach and water equipment rental.

Camping i Hostel Legjenda

After arriving in Shkodër, I immediately went to Camping Legjenda. It is located on the road leading from the Montenegrin border crossing to the city. It's close to Rozafa Castle. Once there, I decided to sleep in my own tent. There is also space to park campers and trailers. There is also a hostel on site with private rooms and dormitories. The complex also has a restaurant (pretty good) and a swimming pool that guests can use at their leisure. There is a playground for children.

Hotel Tradita

While in Albania, I was looking for a place where I could truly immerse myself in the country's past. Unexpectedly, this place turned out to be the boutique Hotel Tradita in Shkodër. It is located within the walls of a historic house whose architecture is typical of this part of Albania. The rooms are very cozy. They are filled with wooden furniture and traditional decorations. However, the hotel's greatest advantage is its restaurant. During my two-week stay in this country, it was at Tradita that I tasted the most delicious dishes of Albanian cuisine.

Shkodra Backpackers Hostel

I found the hostel by accident, wandering around the center of Shkodra. I didn't plan a long stay in this city, but thanks to Shkodra Backpackers Hostel I changed my mind. There is a casual and artistic bohemian atmosphere there. Prices are low and the conditions in the dorms are really great (there is also an option to rent a private room). The hostel team also deserves recognition, as they will advise you on what interesting things to do/see in the city, help you organize trips to further attractions, or rent a bike. The only thing is they could clean it more often.
