To the north of Lviv lies Żółkiew - a small town with a very rich history. Initially, in the fourteenth century, there was a village here, which 200 years later, thanks to Stefan Żółkiewski, was expanded and created a town. In accordance with the assumptions, it was built on the model of Zamość , as a Renaissance “ideal city”. When Jan III Sobieski took over the reign of these lands in later centuries, it was Żółkiew that became his favorite place.

Then the king transformed the city into an important center of political life and ordered the reconstruction of the castle into a baroque residential residence. It was here that the official celebration of the victory after the Battle of Vienna was held. Thanks to an interesting and rich past, you can admire many interesting monuments in Żółkiew until today. The most important ones include the collegiate church of St. Lawrence or the Renaissance-Baroque castle , which now houses a museum. The wooden church of St. Trinity , which, along with other Ukrainian and Polish churches, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List . Other noteworthy monuments of the city are the neo-baroque town hall building, the Zwierzyniecka and Krakowska gates, and the baroque Dominican monastery.
