Nitra

Nitra is the oldest city in Slovakia. It is located about 90 kilometers east of Bratislava . The long history of settlement in these areas dates back to the 7th century. The first Christian church on the territory of today's Slovakia was established here in 828. Today, the main attraction of Nitra is the Nitra Castle , which dates back to the 11th century. However, below the castle there is the so-called Upper Town , where you will see, among others a Franciscan monastery and church, a large seminary and the Saltworks House. Thanks to its originally preserved medieval architecture, the old town of Nitra was included in the "historic city reserve". It is also worth going up the Zobor mountain . It offers beautiful views of the city and its surroundings. What's more, on its slopes there are vineyards and small wineries , which you must stop by for a tasting.
