Decebal Monument

The Decebal Monument is the largest rock sculpture in Europe and at the same time one of the biggest attractions of the Danube gorge . It is located near the town of Orszowa. It was carved in a natural rock above the Mraconia Bay. The initiator of this project was a Romanian businessman who wanted to mark the Romanian contribution to the shaping of European culture.

He bought the rock in 1993, then the works continued for the next 11 years. In 2004, the sculpture was officially unveiled. It shows Decebalus, the last king of Dacia, who fought for the independence of his country with the Roman Empire in the first century. The sculpture is almost 43 meters high and over 31 meters wide , and the character's nose is 7 meters by 4 meters. The impressive work is perfectly visible from the main road that runs along the Danube. It is also possible to take a short cruise, thanks to which you will be able to look at the sculpture from a slightly closer perspective.

The Decebal Monument will be an interesting attraction for everyone . You don't have to be an art connoisseur to appreciate the magnitude of the sculpture. Tourists traveling along the Danube should make a short stop to see this monumental work with their own eyes.
