Alba Iulia is the former capital of Transylvania and one of the most important cities in the region. The long and rich history of the city dates back to ancient times, when the first Roman settlement existed there. Over the centuries, the city has become an important economic and political center. Already in 1291, the first parliament of Transylvania was established here. Over time, Alba Iulia became the capital.

Another important event was the signing of the treaty here, under which Transylvania became part of Romania. Today, the city's biggest attraction is the 18th-century citadel , or Alba Carolina . It is one of the largest and better preserved buildings of this type in this part of Europe. During its construction, the remains of previous Roman and medieval fortifications were used. Within the walls, built in the shape of a seven-pointed star, there are, among others The 15th-century Ducal Palace and the 18th-century Batthyaneum library. There is also a museum in the basement of the citadel. The 13th-century St. Michael's Cathedral and the National Reunification Museum are also worth seeing.

For whom?

If you are interested in the fate of Transylvania, you must visit its former capital. Lovers of defensive structures will surely like the huge citadel. It has been preserved in very good condition and looks beautiful to this day. Historians will also easily find Polish threads in the history of the city.

Hotel Transilvania

A very good hotel located in the city center, very close to the citadel. You can see that it has recently undergone a major renovation. The room was small, but well designed and equipped. Unfortunately, the parking lot is not closed or guarded, but at least you don't have to look for a parking space. We really liked the breakfasts here.

Pensiunea Element

This guesthouse has a higher standard than many 4* hotels we have stayed in. Beautifully decorated rooms, and the entire place is conducive to relaxation. It is located a bit outside the city, but it offers peace and quiet. It also has a pleasant garden. The walk to the citadel took us about 20 minutes. Very nice staff and a fantastic breakfast. Considering these conditions, it is a very attractive price.

Ave, Alba!

The guesthouse may not look like much from the outside, but inside it turns out to be quite a decent hotel. In addition, it is perfectly located, as the fortress is just a few minutes' walk away. The room was large, comfortable and perfectly cleaned. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very nice owner who was happy to help us plan our sightseeing tour of the area. Great recognition also deserves the delicious breakfasts.

The biggest advantage is the location, because right next to it is the main entrance gate to the amazing citadel. At the same time, the street next door is closed to traffic, so it is generally quiet and peaceful here. We got lost a bit while looking for a parking lot, but the friendly staff helped us a lot over the phone and it was no problem. The room was large and well equipped. High level of cleanliness. There was nothing to complain about.

La Maison de Caroline

A very atmospheric hotel, located in a historic building in the historic part of the city. It's close to all the biggest attractions. The room had a classic decor, but at the same time a high standard of equipment. Everything was sparkling clean and the service was nice and professional. I also highly recommend using the restaurant located in the hotel. Well-prepared, local dishes.
