<p>Ålesund <strong>looks lovely all year round.</strong> When you come here in winter, you have the chance to catch the Northern Lights and ski on the snow-covered Alpine slopes. In summer you can explore the numerous hiking trails and watch puffins on the nearby island of Runde.</p>

When to visit Alesund?

<p>Ålesund city center is easily walkable. There are several large aquariums here, the largest of which is 36 meters long, 17 meters wide and holds 4 million liters of unfiltered sea water. During your visit <strong>, you can admire divers feeding giant rays and toothed rays,</strong> spy penguins and otters, take a closer look at countless exotic sea creatures, and walk on extensive viewing platforms overlooking the ocean waters.</p>

What to see in Alesund?

<p>Although Ålesund is definitely not a city that never sleeps, in the very center you can find <strong>several very nice places</strong> for an evening drink or beer.</p><h3> Dirty Nelly Irish Pub</h3><p> A small, <strong>classically furnished pub</strong> , perfect for meeting friends over a glass of beer. In the evenings you can often watch football matches (Kirkegata 1).</p><h3> MILK Bar &amp; Lounge</h3><p> A glass <strong>cocktail bar with a view of the harbor</strong> and friendly service. The menu also includes a large selection of wines (Skaregata 1A).</p><h3> Brew Pier</h3><p> A nice place <strong>to go for a beer and a burger</strong> . Nice service and plenty of places to sit. Lots of young people on weekends (Keiser Wilhelms gate 2B).</p>

Events in Ålesund

<p>When visiting Ålesund, it is also worth going on <strong>a trip to the small surrounding islands of Giske</strong> and visiting <strong>the bird paradise Runde,</strong> 60 km away.</p><h3> Giske Islands </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/norwegia/alesund/alesund-godoy.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Alesund" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Godoy, Alesund, Norway - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Visiting the four Giske islands connected by tunnels is a great day trip from Ålesund. Vigra, Valderøya, Giske and Godøya are incredibly picturesque and <strong>each</strong> <strong>has its</strong> <strong>own attractions.</strong> Vigra is famous for the sandy Blimsanden beach, on Valderøyi there is the Skjonghellaren cave, where traces of the presence of people from the Stone Age were found, on Giske you can see a 12th-century marble church and tombs from the Viking Age, and on Godøyi you can visit the small fishing port of Alnes with its white and red lantern and climb to the top of Mount Storhornet (497 m).</p><h3> Runde Island </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/norwegia/alesund/alesund-runde.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Alesund" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Runde, Alesund, Norway - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Called the &quot;bird island&quot;, Runde is one of <strong>the largest bird areas on the Norwegian coast</strong> . About 500-700 thousand birds of over 200 species come here every year. You can meet here, among others: puffins, three-toed gulls, crested cormorants, white boobies, skuas, black grouses and oystercatchers. Most of the birds nest on the rock cliff on the western side of the island.</p>

Active in Alesund

<p>Much less touristy than <a href="https://brate.com/europe/norway/bergen/">Bergen</a> <strong>Alesund delights</strong> not only with its picturesque location amid the Sunnmøre Alps, but also <strong>with its extremely coherent, Art Nouveau architecture</strong> . This unique, as for Norwegian cities, buildings was created as a result of a fire that in 1904 completely destroyed a wooden trading settlement. The fire destroyed 850 houses and left 10,000 inhabitants homeless. Thanks to the support flowing min. from the German Emperor Wilhelm II, the city was rebuilt quite quickly. The streets were decorated with brick buildings in the Art Nouveau style, thanks to which Alesund is today considered <strong>to be true Art Nouveau gems.</strong> </p><div id="attachment_80600" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 500px;"><div id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 500px;"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/norwegia/alesund/alesund.jpg?tr=n-hero" alt="Alesund" width="500" height="326"><p class="caption"> Alesund, Norway - © Brate</p></div></div><h2> For whom?</h2><p> Ålesund will appeal to <strong>fans of Art Nouveau architecture and all those who like to spend time actively</strong> .
