<p>Bitola <strong>is full of life regardless of the season</strong> . So no matter whether you visit it in summer or winter, you will be able to see how diverse the city is. However, it is worth remembering that in July or August it can be really hot there.</p>

When to visit Bitola?

<p>Most of Bitola&#39;s attractions are concentrated around the promenade, i.e. the very center. The most important monuments can also be found there.</p><h3> A clock tower </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/macedonia/bitola/bitola-clock-tower.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Bitola" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Clock Tower, Bitola, Macedonia - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> It is worth starting your tour of the city from the northern end of the Shirok Sokak pedestrian street. There is <strong>a clock tower</strong> (Saat Kula) on a small square. It was built in the 19th century. It is approximately 30 m high.</p><h3> Church of St. Dmitri</h3><p> In the southern part of the square you can find <strong>the church of St. Dymitr</strong> . Its construction was possible thanks to the consent given by the Turkish administration. The temple had to be lower than the other buildings and not stand out in any way. So the Macedonians dug part of its foundations deep into the ground, and all the work took them only 4 months. Inside the church there is <strong>an interesting iconostasis</strong> from the 19th century. It is currently the most important Orthodox temple in Bitola.</p><h3> Mehmed Efendi Jeni džamija </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/macedonia/bitola/bitola-mehmed-efendi.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Bitola" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Mehmed Efendi, Bitola, Macedonia - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> On the opposite side of the square stands the <strong>Mehmed Efendi Jeni džamija</strong> mosque. It was built in the second half of the 16th century and is an excellent example of Ottoman religious architecture. Its impressive minaret (40 m high) and the dome over the main room dominate the landscape of this part of the city. In the interior, it is worth paying attention to <strong>interesting frescoes</strong> , largely with plant motifs.</p><h3> Bezisten</h3><p> While in this part of the city, it is worth visiting the other side of the Dragor River, the <strong>covered bazaar</strong> or bezisten. It was built in the 15th century and underwent a thorough renovation not so long ago. Currently, you can find a large number of shops there.</p><h3> Old bazaar</h3><p> To the east of bezistan lies <strong>the bazaar district</strong> . It consists of low buildings and a thicket of narrow streets. It&#39;s quite a nice place to walk. There used to be <strong>2,000 shops</strong> here, and the entire bazaar was divided into <strong>30 smaller bazaars</strong> that focused on selling specific goods. Unfortunately, for centuries it was either consumed by fires or by wars that eventually led to its considerable devastation. Nowadays it may not be as impressive as in its heyday, but it is teeming with life again.</p><h3> Shirok Sokak</h3><p> The heart of Bitola is undoubtedly <strong>the pedestrian street, Shirok Sokak Street</strong> . It stretches from the clock tower to the intersection with Partizanska Street. This is where the city&#39;s social and cultural life is concentrated, with numerous restaurants, service points and bars. Shirok Sokak is the favorite place of all Bitola residents. You simply have to visit here!</p><h3> Bitola Museum</h3><p> At the southern end of the pedestrian street there is <strong>the Bitola Museum</strong> (Kliment Ohridski Street). It has a very rich archaeological exhibition presenting the history of these lands. However, much more interesting is <strong>the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Memorial Hall</strong> . The father of modern Turkey, as Ataturk is called, attended a military school in Bitola. His memory is still very much alive in this city, so it was decided to create a place to commemorate his life.</p><h3> Army House </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/macedonia/bitola/bitola-11.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Bitola" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Army House, Bitola, Macedonia - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> On the opposite side of the promenade from the museum is <strong>the Army House</strong> (Officers&#39; House). It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It was a place where officers of the Turkish army, then the Serbian, Bulgarian, Yugoslav and Macedonian army held their offices. Marshal Tito himself once stayed in the house. Although it was once the site of numerous balls and other important cultural events, the facility has been falling into ruin for a long time.</p><h3> Heraclea </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/macedonia/bitola/bitola-heraclea.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Bitola" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Heraclea, Bitola, Macedonia - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Two kilometers south of the center of Bitola lie the ancient <strong>ruins of the ancient city of Heraclea</strong> . It was built around the 4th century BC and was an important strategic point for a long time. Currently, you can admire the remains of former Roman baths, a theater and residential buildings. Quite interesting mosaics were also discovered here.</p>

What to see in Bitola?

<p>Bitola is not only an interesting city in terms of monuments. It is <strong>, above all, a place where you can relax in the evenings with a glass of aromatic Macedonian wine</strong> or a drink. Numerous pubs and clubs invite those who want to party until dawn.</p><h3> blueberry</h3><p> At the southern end of the boardwalk there is <strong>Jagoda</strong> (Shirok Sokak 154). During the day it&#39;s a nice cafe where you can stop by for a coffee. In the evenings it is the perfect place to relax with a drink or a beer. Additionally, DJs make your stay there more enjoyable.</p><h3> Porta Jazz</h3><p> If you are looking for a slightly more alternative place in Bitola, with an artistic soul and a unique atmosphere, be sure to visit <strong>Porta Jazz</strong> (ul. Cyryla i Methodego). Nice selection of beers and drinks. In addition, from time to time there are concerts of various bands, not only jazz ones, as the name of the club might suggest.</p><h3> Bar Carsija</h3><p> As you might guess, <strong>Bar Carsija</strong> (Veleshka Street) is located in the bazaar district. This is a place with a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Mainly young people come here. A perfect place to meet for a beer.</p>

Nightlife in Bitola

<p>Located east of Lake Prespa, <strong>Bitola</strong> is a lively, fashionable city. Next to <a href="https://brate.com/europe/macedonia/skopje/">Skopje</a> , it is one of the most cosmopolitan places in North Macedonia. Bitola&#39;s life is centered around the <strong>Shirok Sokak promenade</strong> . You can find numerous shops, restaurants and bars next to it. </p><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/macedonia/bitola/bitola-5.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Bitola" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Bitola, Macedonia - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> However, Bitola is also a <strong>few interesting monuments</strong> , both from the period of antiquity (the ruins of Heraclea) and the reign of the Ottoman Empire. The hostel is located near the southern end of the pedestrian street. Even though I ended up there a bit by accident, I was very pleased. A comfortable bed, access to a washing machine and a well-equipped kitchen. The owner is very helpful. The hostel has its own parking lot.

Hotel Theater was one of the most amazing hotels I had the opportunity to stay in Macedonia. It combines traditional Turkish architecture and interior design with modern design. It&#39;s worth paying a few denars extra to eat breakfast there. It&#39;s delicious!

Goldy Hostel is located practically in the very center of Bitola. It&#39;s an extremely intimate place where I could feel at home. There is peace and quiet there, so after sightseeing or partying you can fully relax there. Nice people work there. They are happy to help with organizing transfers and sightseeing.
