Gauja National Park is one of the most beautiful places in Latvia in terms of landscape. It is the oldest and largest protected area (90,000 ha) in the country. It embraces the exceptionally picturesque meanders of the Gauja River , between Valmara and Murjani. This corner of Latvia is characterized by great biodiversity and numerous natural wonders.

The most popular attractions of the park are red sandstone cliffs and numerous caves , including Kalejala (the longest of all cave systems located there), Valnela and Liela Ellite. In addition, along Gauja you can find over 500 various monuments , including six medieval castles. This Latvian national park is best explored with a car, as the places of interest are spread over a large area. If you would like to concentrate on a selected part of this extraordinary region of Latvia, then you can consider cycling tours.
