Otranto is located in the Apulia region, south-east of Lecce. It is a city with a very turbulent past. All thanks to the Turks who occupied Otranto for thirteen months at the end of the 15th century. Unfortunately, they also murdered 800 city defenders, whose remains can be seen in the glass cases decorating the walls of the city cathedral .

Importantly, in 2013, Benedict XVI announced to the world his decision to canonize the martyrs. The temple itself is, next to the castle , one of the most important attractions of Otranto. The city is also an interesting destination for Poles. Because in 1836 Juliusz Słowacki came here. Otranto treated it as a stopover before continuing his journey to Corfu . Does the city offer other attractions apart from sightseeing? Yes, of course. And they are, above all, quite pleasant and picturesquely situated beaches .
