<p>Piraeus is worth including in the program of your stay in Athens. <strong>The most convenient way to get there from the Greek capital is by metro or express bus.</strong> 3 hours should be enough to visit the most important places, but you can spend the whole day there without getting bored for a moment. Piraeus is a great base for exploring the Greek islands. Ships depart from the port, including: to the Cyclades or Saronic Islands. The city can also be an interesting alternative to staying overnight in the capital of Greece.</p><h3> When to go to Piraeus?</h3><p> Piraeus has good weather all year round. If you don&#39;t mind the heat, you can easily go there in the summer season. However, it will be crowded and very hot, but you will certainly be able to sunbathe. You will find much more pleasant conditions there <strong>in the off-season between November and March.</strong></p>

How to get there from Athens?

<h3>Harbor</h3><p> The center of city life is concentrated in the main port. <strong>It is an industrialized area, not very attractive to tourists.</strong> It is mainly visited by people going on a cruise to one of the Greek islands. There is a metro station right next to the port, so you can&#39;t miss this place. These two places are separated by a strip of sandy and rocky waterfront, crowded with sunbathers during the season.</p><h3> Kastella district</h3><p> To the north of the port of Mikrolimano stands <strong>the Kastella district</strong> . It attracts attention with its neoclassical buildings that stretch along its narrow streets. Prominent among these is <strong>the open-air theater, Veakio</strong> . Although it is a modern structure, its style refers to ancient amphitheatres. It was built in the 19th century in the neo-Byzantine style. As befits an Orthodox temple, it had to include frescoes and icons. Special care was taken here. <strong>The interior is entirely covered with paintings,</strong> giving the impression of great wealth and splendor. Residents love meeting there. It is located on one of the main squares of the city - Korai Square. It attracts attention with its Corinthian columns, which refer to the architecture of ancient Greece.</p><h3> Museum ship - Georgios Averof</h3><p> The cruiser Georgios Averof retired in 1952. After several dozen years, it was decided to use it again, although this time for completely different purposes. <strong>The ship was transformed into an interesting museum,</strong> so today you can see its interior unchanged since its service. Georgios Averof moored in the port of Flisvos. It is slightly away from the center of Piraeus. You can get there by metro and then by tram.</p>

What to see in Piraeus?

<p>The beaches in the center of Piraeus are crowded with residents and tourists during the season, even though they are neither the most beautiful nor the most comfortable. If you want to go to the beach near Piraeus, take the tram to Glyfada. The line stretches along the coast dotted with picturesque beaches.</p><h3> Votsalakia Beach</h3><p> It is said to be the most beautiful beach in the Piraeus area. The soft sand, blue water and enchanting scenery undoubtedly add to its charm. It&#39;s impossible to get bored there. <strong>There is a volleyball court, tennis courts and a swimming pool on the beach.</strong> There are taverns and restaurants nearby, although none of them can beat the open-air cafe in the middle of the beach.</p><h3> Glyfada</h3><p> Glyfada is a popular resort with a long and wide sandy beach. It&#39;s the perfect place to soak up the sun and practice water sports.</p><h3> Akti tou Iliou</h3><p> Akti tou Iliou beach is appreciated. During the season, there is an entrance fee, but you can pay any money for such soft, golden sand and clear, blue water. It is an extremely picturesque place with <strong>great tourist infrastructure</strong> . There is no shortage of restaurants and cozy cafes there.</p>
