The temple itself was built in the 5th century BC and was the largest religious building in the entire Peloponnese. Like other monuments in Olympia, it has not stood the test of time - its splendor is today evidenced by one column and several ruined elements and decorations, which are kept in the Archaeological Museum.</p><h3> Olympic Stadium</h3><p> The Olympic Stadium is the most interesting place in the area of Ancient Olympia. It was here that half-naked men, girded only around their waists, competed with each other for a laurel wreath and the title of the best. The stadium has an unusual, rectangular shape. <strong>It was partially reconstructed,</strong> so today we can see the rows of stones marking the starting and finishing lines and the judges&#39; seats. The stands in the form of grassy hills around the competition field could accommodate as many as 45,000 spectators, all male.</p><h3> Temple of Hera</h3><p> The Temple of Hera is <strong>the oldest and least damaged monument in Olympia.</strong> It was built at the turn of the 7th and 6th centuries BC. Its architecture, subject to the fashion of contemporary styles, bears the marks of various elements typical of periods from the archaic to the Hellenistic era.</p><h3> Archeological museum</h3><p> The Archaeological Museum hides some of the most valuable Greek treasures inside. Its collections consist of finds discovered in the area <strong>of ancient Altis</strong> - an olive grove filled with religious buildings honoring Zeus and other gods. Among the 24 exhibits you can see the most amazing inventions of his design, such as <strong>a mechanical planetarium</strong> , <strong>an odometer and burning mirrors.</strong> Be sure to reserve time to visit the Archimedes Museum. You will be impressed by the genius of this man born in the 3rd century BC.</p><h3> Museum of the History of the Olympic Games</h3><p> This museum will reveal to you <strong>the most fascinating history of the Olympic Games</strong> , which no history teacher has ever told you. You will learn in which disciplines the athletes competed and what connection Hercules had with the games.
