Situated on seven hills, Bamberg is Germany's best-preserved medieval city . Untouched by bombing by the Allies, historic tenement houses, palaces and churches, combined with a network of canals that surround the city and vast, green gardens create an extremely charming landscape. The three historic districts of the city - Bergstadt, Inselstadt and Gärtnerstadt - were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993.
But Bamberg is not only about charming landscapes and interesting architecture. It also includes over 50 types of local beers (including the famous smoked Rauchbier) brewed by 11 traditional breweries. An absolute must-visit for true beer drinkers.
