<p>Valbona as a village is a typical mountain town. However, its greatest advantage is the nature surrounding it on all sides. Due to its wonderful values, a large part of the Valbona valley is <strong>protected within the national park</strong> - Kombëtar Lugina e Valbonës Park. You can find several interesting places here that will appeal to those who like to commune with beautiful nature.</p><h3> Valbona River</h3><p> Of course, from a natural perspective, one of the most important elements of the valley is <strong>the Valbona River,</strong> which flows and shapes it. Its source is in the Albanian Alps, close to the border with Montenegro. It flows, among others, through the villages of Valbona and Dragobi, and then reaches Bajram Curri. There it turns south-west and then joins the Drin River. </p><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/albania/valbone/valbone-10.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Valbone" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Valbone, Albania - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> The Valbona River <strong>is considered the cleanest river in <a href="https://brate.com/pl/europa/albania/">Albania</a> .</strong> Currently, efforts are underway to preserve its natural course, which is to be disturbed by building several dams for hydroelectric power plants. If this project is not stopped, Europe will lose one of its most beautiful and pristine rivers.</p><p> During your stay in Valbona, it is worth taking a walk along the river. You can find an old stone water mill there, as well as numerous footbridges from which you can admire its incredible transparency.</p><h3> Liqeni ii Xhemes</h3><p> Surrounded by beech trees, about 200 m from the main road running through the valley, between the villages of Valbona and Dragobi, lies the lakes <strong>of Liqeni and Xhemes (known as Jame&#39;s Lake)</strong> . It is located at an altitude of 700 m above sea level. It has an area of approximately 500 m2 and is up to 3 m deep. It is not very large, but its surroundings and crystal clear water make a pleasant impression.</p><h3> Shpella e Dragobisë </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/albania/valbone/valbone-dragobisë.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Valbone" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Shpella e Dragobisë, Valbone, Albania - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Dragobi Cave, or Shpella e Dragobisë, is located between Valbona and the village of Dragobi, located in the lower part of the valley. In 1925 <strong>, Bajram Curri, a Kosovo freedom fighter, hid there</strong> with his companions from King Zog&#39;s troops. The king absolutely did not support his efforts to unite Kosovo and Albania, which resulted in a conflict between them. Bajram Curri died on March 29 in a cave from a gunshot wound. Authorities claimed he committed suicide. The Albanians believe that he was murdered on the orders of King Zog. In memory of the hero, a nearby town located on the border with Kosovo was named Bajram Curri.</p><p> The Cave itself is not very impressive. <strong>It is located at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level</strong> . and is approx. 8 m long, 3-4 m wide and 2-4 m high. The trail to it begins near the Relax hotel and restaurant in the Maskollata hamlet. Initially, the path runs practically along the main road running through the valley, and then climbs steeply up a forested slope. At the crossroads, take the yellow trail (red signs lead from the hotel), which leads directly to the cave.</p>

Nature in Valbone

<p>Your stay in Valbona can be <strong>either very intense or more relaxing</strong> . The valley offers pleasant walking routes, while the higher trails can provide many experiences, including some more extreme ones.</p><h3> Trip to Çerem</h3><p> One of the more pleasant and simple trekking routes from the Valbona Valley is the one leading to <strong>the hamlet of Çerem</strong> . There are two variants of the trail that start practically in the same place, i.e. near the Relax hotel and restaurant in Maskollat. The first variant is a typical mountain path that meanders through a quite dense forest ( <strong>watch out for vipers!</strong> ). The second variant is a gravel road leading off the main road leading through the valley. So, to diversify the hike, you can go up one route and go down another. </p><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/albania/valbone/valbone-cerem.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Valbone" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Çerem, Valbone, Albania - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Çerem itself is picturesquely situated among the higher mountains, <strong>in a lush green valley</strong> . There are several stone houses there, some of which are in ruins. During the season, there are guesthouses here, which are often used by mountaineers coming down from the higher parts of the mountains. Next to Çerem, in the western part of the valley, you can find a quite nice waterfall where you can cool down during the summer heat.</p><h3> Trip to Kukaj</h3><p> Directly from the village of Valbona you can go on a pleasant mountain walk to the hamlet of Kukaj. It is located <strong>above the valley and below the peak of Maja e Thatë</strong> . There is a quite wide gravel road leading to Kukaj, which offers amazing views of the valley and the Albanian Alps. In the village itself you can find several picturesque stone cottages.</p><h3> Walk to Rrogam </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/albania/valbone/valbone-rrogam.jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Valbone" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Rrogam, Valbone, Albania - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> A typical walking route in the valley is the one leading from Valbona to the village of Rrogam, from which you can continue trekking directly to Thethi. <strong>Most of the time you hike on flat, rocky terrain</strong> , with vast mountain views around you. In Rrogam there is a pub where you can drink cold beer, rakia or something non-alcoholic.</p><h3> Peak of the Balkans </h3><figure id="attachment_71597" class="wp-caption alignleft hero-image"><img class="size-medium wp-image-71597" src="https://media.brate.com/images/europa/albania/valbone/valbone-peak-balkans..jpeg?tr=n-hero" alt="Valbone" width="500" height="326"><figcaption class="caption"> Valbone, Albania - © Brate</figcaption></figure><p> Valbona, like Thethi, is located on the 192 km long <strong>Peak of The Balkans</strong> cross-border route. It covers three countries: Albania, <a href="https://brate.com/pl/europa/czarnogora/">Montenegro</a> and <a href="https://brate.com/pl/europa/kosowo/">Kosovo</a> . The trail was created in the form of a loop, which takes 10 to 12 days to complete. During trekking, you can visit the most beautiful nooks and crannies located in the Prokletije mountain range. The most convenient place to start the hike is Valbona, mainly due to the fact that it can be easily reached by your own means of transport or public transport.</p>

Actively in Valbone

<p>Valbone (Valbona) is a small village <strong>in the valley of the same name</strong> , at the foot of the impressive Albanian Alps. Apart from <a href="https://brate.com/europe/albania/theth/">Thethi</a> , it is one of the most popular base camps in this massif. You can easily reach it with your own car, e.g. by using the ferry on <a href="https://brate.com/europe/albania/jezioro-koman/">Lake Komani</a> . Thanks to a pretty good accommodation base (guest houses), you can enjoy the charm of the mountains here without giving up a warm shower and a comfortable bed. On the other hand, people who prefer low-budget solutions will find space to pitch a tent here.</p>

Bujtina is something between a mountain hotel and a cozy guesthouse. Its external appearance does not really correspond to the monumental natural surroundings, but it is undoubtedly worth stopping here. Modern and neatly furnished rooms await guests. Virtually each of them offers a wonderful mountain panorama of the area. Every morning is made more pleasant by exceptionally tasty breakfasts that will meet the expectations of even the most demanding guests.

I chose Villa Dini for several reasons. First of all, it has a great location, relatively close to the beginning of several trails. Secondly, it&#39;s a fairly new place, so it offers really comfortable and good conditions. Here you can taste brilliant Albanian cuisine in its slightly more mountain version. The only thing the hosts could work on is the quality of the wifi. Unfortunately it doesn&#39;t work in all rooms, which was a bit inconvenient.
