Colonia del Sacramento
Autor, Travelbay
Colonia del Sacramento is one of the most beautiful cities in Uruguay. It is located in the south, on a small peninsula washed by the waters of the ocean, opposite the famous neighbor, which is Buenos Aires . The city was founded in 1680 by the Portuguese. As a result, you can find there perfectly preserved colonial architecture.

You will find the best examples of this in the enchanting old town, which due to the combination of several architectural styles (Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial) and historical character is on the UNESCO List of World Cultural and Historical Heritage . A walk along the cobbled streets or wide thoroughfares of Colonia del Sacramento will be a kind of journey in time. Be sure to visit the remains of a Franciscan monastery or the bastion of San Miguel.
