Puerto Maldonado
Autor, Travelbay
Puerto Maldonado (also known as Tambopata) is located 256 meters above sea level in a hot, humid rainforest known as selva (or jungle). It owes its name to Dom Pedro Maldonado, who was 18th-century Spanish explorers. The city was founded at the confluence of the two rivers Tambopata and Madre de Dios, which makes it a port.

If you would like to come here please note that this is not a place for everyone. Because Puerto Maldonado is, above all, a great starting point for exploring the jungle. Anyway, the Amazon rainforest breaks into every nook and cranny of the city. Many restaurants, guesthouses and hotels allow you to experience life in the jungle in an authentic way (of course, while maintaining the 21st century amenities). From Puerto Maldonado, boat trips or hiking tours in the rainforest are organized.
For whom?
Puerto Maldonado is a great proposition if you are into an explorer and adventurer. If you care about less commercial places where nature is at the fore, then you will also like it here.
