Kuelap
Autor, Travelbay
Kuelap is one of the most amazing places in Peru. Of course, it is inferior to the popularity of Machu Picchu , but it is also worth a look here. Under the name of Kuelap there are ruins of a fortified city on top of a mountain 3000 m above sea level . It is one of the best examples of pre-Columbian architecture not only in the country, but also on the continent. You can get there on foot or take the funicular that runs (except Mondays) to this place full of history.

Kuelap consists mainly of a walled fortress, almost 600 m long and 120 m wide. Massive walls, made of large limestone blocks, sometimes reach even 17 m in height! There are 400 buildings in the fortress with a population of 3,000 to 5,000. Some of the objects located there are renovated to give them a second life. Undoubtedly, Kuelap is admirable, both for its location and its size.
For whom?
If you're looking for off- the- beaten-track destinations then Kuelap is the perfect destination. Tourists do not come here in crowds, because getting to this part of Peru is quite a challenge (but it is not impossible) . Fans of history and old cultures will be able to travel back in time for a moment.
