Peru is lucky for its canyons. Because it is in this country that there are two deepest canyons in the world. The first is Colca and the second is Cotahuasi located in the Arequipa region. At its deepest point, the canyon cuts into the ground for about 3535 meters. Due to its geological values and great biodiversity, it appeared on the UNESCO Tentative List as a candidate to be under the full protectorate of this organization.

The best base for exploring the canyon is the small town of Cotahuasi, which can be reached by bus or your own means of transport. The area abounds with numerous hiking trails that will allow you to look at the canyon from above and take a closer look at it. And there is something to admire here! The canyon includes several different ecosystems and habitats , from coastal deserts to high Andean wet forests. Its area is overgrown with amazing plants, among which many species of birds and mammals live.

For whom?

If you like places that are kind of "record holders", then be sure to plan a visit to the second, deepest canyon in the world. It is also a great proposition if you prefer hiking and admiring various species of plants or animals up close.
