The Colca Canyon ranks first or second (just behind Machu Picchu ) in any rankings of Peru's most popular tourist attractions. And it should come as no surprise to anyone. Because Colca is the deepest canyon in the world. It is over 100 km long, and its walls are even 3-4 km high. Interestingly, the canyon was first traversed in 1981 by ... Krakow canoeists from the "Bystrze" club.

Colca, Peru

This feat not only put them in the pages of history, but also put them in the Guinness Book of Records. As they were the first to reach many places in the canyon, they gave them Polish names. Hence, in Colca you can find, for example, waterfalls. John Paul II. Currently, the canyon is a popular destination for excursions, mainly on foot. And numerous viewpoints allow you to admire both the gorge of the Rio Colca River and condors soaring above it.

For whom?

Visit the Colca Canyon for spectacular views and close contact with nature. Here you are guaranteed both. A visit to the canyon can also be an interesting proposition if your hobby is searching for Polish traces while traveling in different countries.

Recommended accomodations

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.
Le Foyer Colca

Le Foyer Colca

After visiting the canyon, we stopped to rest and overnight at Le Foyer Colca. The hotel offers very good conditions at reasonable prices. The room was large, painted and decorated in bright, cheerful colors. The only drawback was the terrible WiFi.
Oasis Paraiso Ecolodge

Oasis Paraiso Ecolodge

Oasis Paraiso Ecolodge is not a guesthouse for people with very high expectations. It's neat and clean here, but you won't find any great luxuries. It suited me very well because the price was quite low. What's more, it included a large breakfast. In addition, beautiful surroundings, intimate atmosphere and friendly service.
La Granja del Colca
Excellent

La Granja del Colca

La Granja del Colca is an absolutely unique place. The position alone is jaw-dropping to the ankles. The views are so impressive that it's hard to get enough of them. It is worth staying for at least one night. The service is fantastic, helpful and nice. The meals served in the restaurant deserve several stars. A real accommodation gem in Peru.
Llahuar Lodge

Llahuar Lodge

I highly recommend this place to backpackers and people who like close contact with nature. The conditions are very simple, a bit like the standard of a mountain shelter. But it's worth stopping here because of the hot springs located right next to it. Relaxing in them is pure pleasure. The package includes great views.
Hotel Kuntur Wassi

Hotel Kuntur Wassi

Hotel Kuntur Wassi is a nice base for exploring the Colca Canyon. The entire facility is decorated in a rustic, but very neat and, contrary to appearances, modern style. We were enchanted by the hotel itself, as well as the surroundings (nice garden) and views (mountains around).
