In the north of Peru lies the city of Cajamarca . It is in this region, and more precisely in the nearby caves, that traces of the first inhabitants of Peru were found. It was also here that Inca and Spanish cultures met and mixed together. The city is dominated by colonial architecture, which has been included in the UNESCO Tentative List .

Due to the fact that Cajamarca lies at an altitude of just over 2700 m above sea level , it offers a fairly mild climate and usually most people do not complain about altitude sickness here. The area around the city is the most forested area in Peru. Cajamarca is famous not only for its interesting monuments, but is also one of the most important regions in the country in terms of cattle breeding and dairy processing. There is also ... the largest gold mine in Peru. All this makes Cajamarca a thriving city that attracts tourists each year who want to learn about history and culture and try excellent regional dishes.
For whom?
Go to Cajamarca if you want to go sightseeing in the first place. A lot of monuments await you here, mainly from the colonial period, but not only. To the west of the city you will also find e.g. the extraordinary archaeological park of Cumbe Mayo.
