Awala-Yalimopo and in particular the nearby Plage Les Hattes is one of the best places in the world to admire the giant leatherback turtle . The egg laying period lasts from April to July, and the animals themselves hatch around Polish autumn. These giants can weigh up to 600 kilograms and look a bit like small tanks from a distance. In Awala-Yalimopo itself you will find a special museum that focuses on these turtles.
