Las Lajas

Las Lajas is perhaps one of the most surprising and slightly less known places in Colombia. In a small town of the same name, close to the border with Ecuador, a sanctuary was built. And perhaps there would be nothing extraordinary about it, if not for the fact that Santuario de Las Lajas is located on a stone bridge over a deep gorge.

The first church was built in this place at the beginning of the 19th century. But the present, neo-gothic temple is the work of the architect Nariño Lucindo Espinoza from 1926-44. The temple impresses with both its architecture and location. As a result, you can come across the statement that it is the most beautiful church not only in Colombia , but also in the world. In addition to the sanctuary itself, an attraction is also a gondola ride (Teleférico Las Lajas), which allows you to look at the area from a slightly wider perspective.
