Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. It is surrounded by green hills overlooked by the statue of Christ the Savior . It makes an amazing impression. This second largest city in Brazil attracts millions of tourists every year during the world-famous Carnival. The beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana are two of the most recognizable beaches in Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro alone, there are as many as fifteen beautiful sandy beaches. Not to mention Rio's nightlife is to say nothing. Apart from the carnival, the Lapa district is electrifying almost every evening.

For whom?

Rio de Janeiro will appeal to lovers of sunbathing, nightlife and nature, which gave this most beautiful city in Brazil so generously.

Security of Rio de Janeiro

Although I strongly encourage you to visit Rio de Janeiro, you have to remember that crime is very high here. Even in spite of attempts to pacify the favela in connection with the organization of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, the city is still not entirely safe. If you want to leave unscathed, stick to the south of the city - Zona Sul (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Gávea, Jardim Botânico, Flamengo, Laranjeiras, Botafogo, Urca). Avoid downtown Saarland (especially after dark) and if you really want to visit the favelas then with a trusted Brazilian. I also advise against jogging in Copacabana in the morning (easy and frequent goal). The Portuguese basics can really help a lot. Even phonetic: "Esztu da Polonia, i esztu Catholic. Esztu gringo get and nał teniu nada" (I'm from Poland and I'm a Catholic. I'm a poor gringo and he has nothing). If that doesn't help, don't fight, just get robbed. Most Cariocas (Rio residents) have no idea about Poland anyway, but being Catholic can help.

My advice

There is an easy way to avoid problems . Buy a map of Rio de Janeiro, place it in a hotel or hostel in front of a local Brazilian and ask him to mark where you can and cannot walk. And learn the basics of Portuguese!
