In the heart of the jungle, in the state of Chiapas, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico. Palenque National Park (Zona Arqueológica Palenque) protects the site of well-preserved temples and other buildings left by the Maya. The city, which was probably called Lakamha (which can be translated as Big Water), flourished between the 7th and 8th centuries.

Many objects have survived to our times, including the awe-inspiring Temple of the Inscriptions . It has a stepped shape. The entrance to it is decorated with as many as 620 hieroglyphs . During the excavations, a sarcophagus was discovered inside. It housed the remains of the most important ruler of Palenque, Pakal the Great. Of course, this is not the only noteworthy object in the park, so allow yourself a bit more time to explore it. It is worth adding that Palenque was under the protection of UNESCO . The modern city of the same name is located a few kilometers east of the ruins. You will find a lot of hotels and restaurants there.

For whom?

Palenque is of course a great destination if you are interested in archeology and like visiting all sorts of ruins. It will also appeal to people who want to explore Mayan culture and history .

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.

Hotel La Aldea del Halach Huinic

The hotel is simply brilliant. Bathed in greenery, it is a kind of natural oasis in this charming corner of Mexico. Huge swimming pool, well-kept grounds. The stay in the apartment, which was actually half of the entire house, was fantastic. A plus is that it is close to the archaeological site. I recommend!

Hotel Boutique Quinta Chanabnal

This boutique hotel met my and my fiancée's expectations in every way. A beautiful garden with a small but charming swimming pool. The interior is decorated in a slightly more oriental style, but we really liked it. It was atmospheric and comfortable. Not the cheapest, but in our opinion it's worth it.
Hotel Nututun Palenque

Hotel Nututun Palenque

Nututun Palenqu Hotel is situated on the banks of the river, in a very picturesque location. It's a bit from the center of the town, but that suited us because we wanted a quieter atmosphere. There is a great restaurant on site. Garden, swimming pool, nicely decorated room. The price is incredibly affordable.
Hotel Ciudad Real Palenque

Hotel Ciudad Real Palenque

The hotel is located very close to the center of the town, but in a quite quiet and not crowded place. There is a lot of space to relax: a restaurant terrace, a garden with nice greenery, a swimming pool. A bit rustic, but acceptable in this style. Cheaply.
Hotel Cabañas Safari

Hotel Cabañas Safari

My wife and I stayed at the Cananas Safari hotel for two nights. It is quite a good base for trips to the archaeological park. The hotel will arrange transport to you. You can relax by the pool or take a walk around the area. The price is very competitive. And the conditions are a strong 8/10.
