On the southeastern tip of Mexico, you will find a place of paradise. Bacalar is a freshwater lagoon about 42 km long and 2 km wide at its widest point. The water in it shimmers with various shades of blue. As a result, it is known as the Lagoon of Seven Colors . Along its shores you will find a lot of exclusive resorts that are usually horrendously expensive.

A popular form of exploring the Bacalar lagoon is kayaking, SUPs or motorboats. Of course, you can also use the bathing areas. One of the most popular balneario is in the town of Bacalar , which is a great base for exploring the area.

For whom?

If you dream of relaxing in an exceptionally beautiful natural setting, Bacalar should be among your Mexican plans. However, you must remember that this is a destination for tourists with really affluent wallets . Accommodation is really, very expensive here.

Recommended accomodations

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.
El Búho Glamping Bacalar
Very good

El Búho Glamping Bacalar

I had quite a nice time at Glamping Bacalar. The boho-style tents were perfectly arranged and designed. Comfort and closeness to nature. Of course it was quite expensive. But at glamping sites around the world, it's the norm. The plus side is definitely the quiet atmosphere and the rather small number of guests.
Mia Bacalar Luxury Resort & Spa

Mia Bacalar Luxury Resort & Spa

My friends and I went to the Mia resort for a few days. This place delights with its unique architecture, wonderfully arranged space and very luxurious conditions. The undoubted advantage is the location on the shore of the lagoon. So the views are perfect. Very, very expensive, but very, very worth it.
Khaban Bacalar Hotel Boutique

Khaban Bacalar Hotel Boutique

One of the most beautiful places we stayed in. A wonderful location, surrounded by greenery, on the shore of the lagoon, in a very quiet and secluded place. The conditions are perfect. Very boho style. The disadvantages are that food is not included in the price and it is very expensive on site. But apart from that - we recommend it.
Hotel Rancho Encantado
Exceptional

Hotel Rancho Encantado

Hotel Rancho was a hit. Close to the city, but in a place where you can really relax, cut yourself off from other tourists and enjoy the beauty of this corner of Mexico. There is a swimming pool, a garden with beautiful plants, hammocks and a terrace overlooking the lagoon. Very comfortable room.
El Roble Hotel
Excellent

El Roble Hotel

El Roble is an elegant hotel in the center of Bacalar. There is an intimate atmosphere here and the conditions are truly perfect. My wife and I had a huge room with a large, double and very comfortable bed. The staff is very nice. Most of the people working there speak English. And those who don't speak make up for it with personal charm.
