Isla Contoy is located north of Cancun. It is one of Mexico's 67 protected national parks and the most important bird sanctuary in the Mexican Caribbean. Its name probably refers to the shallow waters surrounding it, which served as a kind of shelter for pirates and sailors. Contoy is also famous for a few other things. At its southern end is the reef of Ixlaché.

Moreover, the island is uninhabited, so it can be a real oasis for the animal species living here. In addition, about 70% of its area is made up of mangroves - considered to be one of the most valuable places of this type around the globe. Of course, there are also beaches where the sea is so shallow that it is especially suitable for kids.
For whom?
You value the beauty of nature in its virtually intact and unchanged shape. Then you will surely be charmed by Isla Contoy. It is also an ideal vacation destination if you are tired or bored with the climate in or around Cancun.
