On the shores of the Caribbean Sea, within the Bay of Neiba and the southwestern Dominican Republic, lies Barahona . The city is famous for the cultivation of sugar cane, coffee and banana trees. Barahona can be considered a place off the main tourist routes. Because there is still a calm and intimate atmosphere here, allowing you to take a closer look at the everyday life of the inhabitants.

The surroundings of Barahona are exceptionally picturesque. It is close from here to two amazing lakes : Lagoon del Rincon and Lago Enriquillo and to Balneario La Plaza , which is ... an extraordinary bathing place in a narrow canyon. The city's neighbor is also the national park - Parque Nacional Sierra De Baoruco , which protects endemic plant species found in this area of the Dominican Republic.

For whom?

If you value peace and closeness to nature, then Barahona should appeal to you. Moreover, it is still a place avoided by mass tourism. So, if you prefer places not on the "top of the top" lists, go here as well.

Recommended accomodations

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.
Hotel La Saladilla Beach Club

Hotel La Saladilla Beach Club

We really liked this hotel. It is a small facility located right next to the beach. The view from the terrace is first-class. Additionally, there is an on-site swimming pool and a reasonable price. Conditions also very good. No fireworks or great delights, but it was neat, simple and cozy. What more could you want when you spend most of your time outside anyway?
ECOVILLA CORAL GARDEN

ECOVILLA CORAL GARDEN

I stayed at Ecovilla Coral Garden somewhat spontaneously. And it turned out to be one of the more positive places I lived in the Dominican Republic. Mainly because of the owner. Pedro is a human soul. Open, polite, with great knowledge about the country and the area. The villa itself is a green oasis. The garden made a huge impression on me. There is also a swimming pool and three steps to the sea.
Hotel Al Mare

Hotel Al Mare

Hotel Al Mare is a good place to stay for 1-2 nights. Just to relax a bit and move on. The advantage of the hotel is that it is located on the seafront, basically directly on the beach. Unfortunately, the facility is already old and could use a thorough renovation. Nevertheless, the area itself is worth staying here.
Hotel Loro Tuerto

Hotel Loro Tuerto

I had the opportunity to spend one night at the Loro Tuerto hotel, in the center of Barahona. A very rustic atmosphere, a bit like a scenery from a movie from the late 19th century. A pleasant courtyard surrounded by greenery. Decent price. Nice service. It's worth stopping here.
