Elan Valley
The Elan Valley is a picturesque area of rivers and numerous bodies of water that stretches between two national parks: Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons. This region was very important to the development of Birmingham. It was from here that clean water was obtained 100 years ago, which was transported to the city by an over 100-kilometer aqueduct . The system of dams and water reservoirs dates back to the same period, and today they are home to numerous species of animals and plants.

There are four dams on the River Elan; Craig Goch, Pen y Garreg, Garreg Ddu and Caban Coch. The Claerwen River has the newest and largest dam of the same name, followed by the unfinished Dol y Mynach Dam. The grounds of Elan Velley are wildly diverse and picturesque. You will be able to explore it during hiking tours or from the perspective of a bicycle saddle . The most popular route is the Elan Velly Trail , which goes along the former railway line. It is one of the simpler and accessible to virtually all routes. Take a trip to the Rhayaer area, home to the rare bat nature reserve . Generating options for trips, also more ambitious or demanding, you will find a lot there.
