In the south-western part of Ukraine there is a small town called Khotyn . The history of these areas is turbulent, as they were often ruled by different countries. One of the effects of being an important border point is an amazing castle , which has been preserved in very good condition until today. A small wooden fortress was built here as early as 1140. In the following centuries, there were numerous reconstructions and extensions, and today you can see a fully-fledged and well-fortified castle. It is picturesquely situated above the Dniester River, slightly off the beaten track from the village.
