Dnieper

The Dnieper is the fourth largest city in Ukraine. For many years its official name was Dnipropetrovsk . But in 2016, as part of the decommunization, it was decided to shorten it. Located on both banks of the Dnieper River, for centuries it has been an important point with numerous trade routes. At the height of the center of the modern city, there is the Monastery Island , where the first monastery was probably founded in 870. Unfortunately, it has not survived to our times.

Currently, the island houses the church of St. Nicholas, as well as a nice park, a small zoo and the popular city beach. Another place worth visiting is the Cathedral of the Transfiguration , where the foundation stone was personally laid by Tsarina Catherine II. Other buildings worth seeing are the Students' Palace of the Dnieper National University, the Choir Synagogue and the building of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. The city of Dnieper is today one of the most important transport junctions and has its own airport and port. Railway lines and road junctions also cross here. It is also one of the main industrial, cultural and scientific centers of Ukraine.
For whom?
If you are interested in Ukrainian culture and history, spend some time in the Dnieper. The city, due to the fact that it is an important communication junction, can be a pleasant stop on the way during a tour of Ukraine.
