Chernivtsi is the capital of Bukovina, which to this day is often called "the little Vienna of the East" . Although the city has a long history, it flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the center you will notice many different influences, from Ukrainian to Austro-Hungarian to Romanian. During the walk you will be able to admire many interesting examples of European architecture from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The oldest part of Chernivtsi has recently undergone a thorough revitalization. The biggest attraction is the Romanesque-Byzantine Metropolitan Palace , which was transformed into the University of Chernivtsi. The architecture of the university complex has been widely appreciated in the world and in 2011 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List . Other important monuments of the city are the Town Hall from 1887, the Jewish People's House, the Romanian National Palace and the building of the Musical Theater. The historic center houses many original tenement houses, the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and the former synagogue, which was converted into a cinema after the Second World War. The heart of the city is the small Central Square , as well as a pleasant promenade, i.e. Olga Kobylańska Street.
