Berdyczów

Berdyczów is one of the most important places of Marian cult on Ukrainian soil. It was granted city rights in 1593. The turbulent history of the region and the divine intervention meant that Janusz Tyszkiewicz ordered his castle in Berdyczów to be rebuilt into a monastery. Over the years, many invasions took place here, as a result of which the monastery complex was fortified. But thanks to this, he successfully repulsed three assaults of enemy troops. For centuries, Berdyczów was one of the most important religious places, as well as an important center of culture and science in Ukraine.

Many interesting monuments have been preserved here to this day, the most important of which is of course the aforementioned Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites . The most valuable building in the complex is the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary , built in the mid-18th century. Unfortunately, the interior and its furnishings were destroyed, but thanks to the Polish restoration program, the temple was renovated and re-consecrated. The surrounding fortifications are also very impressive. In the city itself, go to the parish church of St. Barbara , the Radziwiłł Palace and the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
For whom?
First of all, Berdyczów is an ideal destination for very religious people. A visit to the monastery will surely be a strong, spiritual choice. But you will also like it here if you want to search for Polish traces in Ukraine and like sightseeing.
