The city of St. Gallen is located near Lake Constance and less than 90 km from Zurich. Already in the 8th century, there was a Benedictine monastery in its area, but today the city is known primarily for its impressive Baroque abbey . The most important buildings are the cathedral with the original 10th-century crypt, and the library, which is one of the richest and oldest in the world. Many manuscripts are kept here. Some of them are over 1,000 years old, and in total there are over 170,000 documents.

The interiors of the library are considered the most beautiful example of Rococo rooms in all of Switzerland. Already in 1983, the entire monastic district was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. When visiting the city, also spend some time walking around the historic old town. Its center is the market square surrounded by beautifully decorated tenement houses.

For whom?

If you want to learn more about the culture and history of Switzerland , you must visit St. Gallen and the amazing abbey located here. It is also a good direction when you like the atmosphere of smaller, slightly more intimate cities. Sankt Gallen will also be a great idea for a short trip during a break from skiing on the Swiss slopes.

TouchBed City Apartments St.Gallen

Very good apartments, at a reasonable price. Of course, by Swiss standards. Our studio was large, very well equipped and super clean. A big advantage is the location - the historic old town is just a few steps away. We recommend taking an evening walk around this atmospheric town. The only downside for us is parking problems.

Hotel Walhalla

A modern, high-class hotel located in the very center of the city. There is a train station opposite, and it only took me a few minutes to get to the historic old town. The interiors are interestingly decorated, my room was very comfortable and there was nothing missing. I have very fond memories of breakfasts here. Large selection of products. In addition, friendly service and convenient hotel parking.

Hotel Dom

Hotel Dom was a great starting point to get to know the city better. It was very close to the famous abbey. The hotel's decor and equipment were modern and well-kept. Comfortable bed and spacious room. We really liked the breakfasts. As usual in Switzerland, it wasn't cheap, but I can definitely recommend this place.

Einstein St. Gallen

A great hotel located on the outskirts of the UNESCO-protected old town. All services and support are of a high standard. Tasteful and well-decorated interiors. The biggest advantage is its location, but for me the SPA zone with an indoor pool and a gym was also great. I also really liked the local cuisine. Plan dinner here too.

Hotel Restaurant Falkenburg

An amazing, small hotel located directly above the old town. On the one hand, you have to walk a bit, but on the other, it offers beautiful views of the entire town. In addition, the room was beautifully decorated and the place itself was very friendly. The hotel also has a great restaurant. There is no 24-hour reception here, but self check-in with a code was also a very convenient option.
