Visby is the capital and most important city of the largest Swedish island - Gotland . It is situated in its north-west part and it attracts both foreign tourists and the Swedes themselves. Why are they so eager to come here? First of all, because Visby has a unique, medieval character .

This is one of the reasons why it was included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List . Founded in the 12th century, it offers a wealth of interesting monuments, including a 3.5 km long, perfectly preserved defensive wall with original towers; numerous churches and museums (including the fascinating Gotland Museum). In Visby, the Medeltidsveckan festival , i.e. the Medieval Week, is organized, famous not only throughout Sweden, but also in Europe. There are about 500 different events taking place during the festival, which bring closer the culture and traditions of the Middle Ages.
For whom?
A visit to Visby will be an amazing experience for all fans of the Middle Ages . Both the local architecture and the festival taking place there allow you to travel back in time. Of course, enthusiasts of sightseeing and walking will enjoy it there. In addition, a stay in the city can be easily combined with a holiday by the sea and exploring the island.
