The small Swedish village of Jokkmokk in Lapland hosts a traditional fair every year. It has been organized for around 400 years! The market begins on the first Thursday of February . Despite the strong winter time and low temperatures (even down to -40 degrees Celsius), crowds here want to taste local culinary specialties and participate in various cultural events.

Jokkmokk is also an important place for the Sami people , or indigenous Sami people. You will learn quite a bit about them if you decide to visit the Ájtte museum ("The Sami Storage Hut"). Outside of the fair, Jokkmokk is a fairly quiet and sleepy town with very picturesque surroundings.
Who is Jokkmokk for?
A visit to Jokkmokk is definitely a good way to learn about the culture and history of the indigenous people of Lapland. And if you stop by during the fair, you will have plenty of attractions and opportunities to taste traditional dishes.
