Maribor

Maribor is situated close to the Austrian border, in the valley of the Drava River, at the foot of the Pohorje massif . Most tourists pass through it on their way to Ljubljana or when traveling to Croatia . It usually doesn't occur to them that there might be anything interesting in Maribor. And it turns out that it is a really fun city to explore. First of all, it is famous for the fact that it grows the oldest grapevine in the world (or at least in Europe).

Wine traditions are an important cultural aspect not only of Maribor, but also of the entire area. The old town offers several interesting sights. On the other hand, the Pohorje massif and its surroundings are a perfect place to practice various forms of active tourism: from skiing, through trekking to cycling (also the extreme one).

The city is not big and its most interesting attractions are concentrated in the very center. If you like sightseeing and wine tasting , then focus on Maribor itself. If, on the other hand, you like to spend your time a bit more actively , then be sure to go to Pohorje. Ski slopes, numerous hiking trails, a bike park and bicycle routes await you there.
