Serra da Estrela

Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in mainland Portugal. It is located in the north-central part of the country. The highest peak is Torre. It is 1993 meters above sea level and in its upper part there is Portugal's only ski resort. In 1948, a seven-meter tower was added. Thanks to this, the highest point of continental Portugal could be 2000 m above sea level. You can easily get to the top by car, as there is an asphalt road leading there .

A nature park was established on an area of 88.850 ha. It is the largest protected area in the whole country. The rivers Mondego and Zezere have their source here.
