Zalipie

Zalipie is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable villages in Poland. You will find it 30 km north of Tarnów. What distinguishes Zalipie? For over 100 years, houses have been decorated with paintings throughout the village, mainly with flower and plant motifs . But not only! Other buildings in the village are also painted, including kennels for dogs. Where did this tradition come from? From the very inhabitants of Zalipie, who first started to paint the walls inside their houses, and later, thanks to, among other things, the local activist Felicja Curyłowa, they moved to the outside of their cottages. What is more, a competition was organized - the Painted Cottage , under which the walls of the houses were whitewashed and re-covered with fresh paintings once a year.

Zalipie is an ideal destination for a walk combined with admiring painted houses. It is worth starting at the House of Malarek , where you can see an exhibition devoted to Felicja Curyłowa, as well as the idea of decorating the huts. There is also a museum in the village devoted to the activist herself, and you can also visit an exceptionally atmospheric church . Remember, however, that this is not an open-air museum. The village has its inhabitants. Therefore, when wandering between houses, respect their privacy.
For whom?
Zalipie will appeal to both young and old. That is why the village will be an ideal proposition for a family trip . Zalipie is also a photographer's paradise. There's tons of inspiration here, and colors and patterns are a popular theme for Instagram photos.
