Pieniny
Autorka, Travelbay
The Pieniny Mountains are a small but exceptionally picturesque and characteristic mountain range that stretches east of the Czorsztyn Lake. The vast majority of it is located in Slovakia , but also in Poland there is plenty to see and where to wander. On both sides of the border, the range is protected as part of the national park . What distinguishes the Pieniny Mountains? First of all, limestone rocks that decorate the tops of, among others, Trzech Koron (the highest peak of the Central Pieniny, 982 m above sea level) or Sokolica - the most popular trekking destinations in the entire range. In spring and summer, the Pieniny Mountains also delight with flower-filled meadows.

Tourists come here not only to wander the trails. The second, important reason is the rafting trips on the Dunajec River . Rafting down the gorge of this mountain river, in wooden boats, accompanied by raftsmen is an experience worth having. During the cruise, you will not only be able to admire beautiful views, but also listen to local legends or anecdotes. The best starting points in the Pieniny Mountains are Szczawnica, Krościenko nad Dunajcem and Czorsztyn .
For whom?
Go to the Pieniny Mountains if you are looking for a slightly more peaceful alternative than the Tatra Mountains . However, at the height of the summer season there are ... queues to enter Trzy Korony or Sokolica. So with this calmness it can be different. However, if you decide to hike the slightly less popular routes, then you will be able to enjoy the intimate atmosphere. A trip to the Pieniny Mountains will also be a real treat for photographers . In particular, at sunrise, when picturesque mists often rise over the Dunajec valley.
