Although many years have passed since the Second World War, Oświęcim is still associated with the events that took place during it. Because it was there in 1940 that the Germans established one of the most terrible concentration camps. Until now, it is a symbol of the atrocities that occurred during this armed conflict. Currently, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum operates on the site of the former camp. Its main task is to cultivate the memory of those who died there and to remind people about the mistakes made by mankind in the last century. Tourists can visit the sites of the former camps Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where visits should be allocated from 3 to 4 hours.

However, Oświęcim is not only the site of the former extermination camp. In terms of tourism, the city has a few more interesting places. First of all, it is worth visiting the Castle Museum in the medieval fortress. Be sure to also check out the defensive tower , which is the oldest building in the city. Make time for a walk along the trail of Oświęcim murals and the boulevards by the Soła River. It is therefore worthwhile to look at Oświęcim from a slightly different perspective after visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.
For whom?
A visit to Oświęcim and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum is a must-see for anyone interested not only in the history of World War II, but also in Poland itself. However, it is worth bearing in mind that this is a difficult experience for which it is worth preparing mentally.
