Echternach

Echternach is located in the eastern part of the Mullerthal region , on the Sure River, right on the border with Germany. It is the oldest city in all of Luxembourg and an important cultural center of the country. Echternach is characterized by medieval buildings with numerous narrow streets and monuments. The most important is the abbey (Abbaye d'Echternach) built in the 7th century! In the center you will also find an interesting museum dedicated to prehistory.

But if you go to the lake to the south of the center, called Echternacher See , you will be able to admire the remains of the largest Roman villa north of the Alps, along with a visitor center. Echternach itself can also be a great starting point for the routes of the Mullerthal region and for getting to know this part of Luxembourg.
