Trakai

Trakai and its mighty castle are often mentioned as the greatest attractions of Lithuania. The small town near Vilnius is beautifully situated because it is flooded by the waters of various lakes on each side. The most characteristic building here is the 14th-century castle erected on a small island of Lake Galwe .

Over time, the stronghold was transformed into a richly decorated residence, which was often visited by Władysław Jagiełło. The building was destroyed in the 17th century. Nowadays, you can admire the reconstructed fortress, which also houses an interesting historical museum. You can easily get to the castle island using a special footbridge. But you can also see the castle from every side by going on a short cruise, or by renting a boat, kayak, pedalo or SUP. In Trakai, it is also worth visiting the History Museum , see traditional Karaim houses , as well as the Karaim Ethnographic Museum. The Trotsky Historical National Park was created around it, in which there are many interesting hiking trails, educational paths, as well as the Tyszkiewicz Palace in Zatrocze .
For whom?
A trip to Trakai will be a great idea for the whole family. Curious about history, they will find an impressive castle here, and three interesting museums that show the fate of these areas. Fans of walks and active recreation will surely like the beautiful surroundings, which gives the possibility of interesting trips and scenic cruises by boat, pedal boat or canoe.
