Peja (Peć, Pejë) is a city located in the western part of Kosovo , near the border with Montenegro . Its location is incredibly picturesque as it lies at the foot of the Prokletije Mountains , right next to the entrance to the exceptionally beautiful Rugova Canyon .

However, Peja is not only beautiful nature. The city is home to Pećka Patrijaršija, a monastery that is the seat of the patriarchy, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List . Peja is also a few other churches , quite a nice center with a bazaar and a small, but quite interesting City Museum. The city can therefore be a good base for mountain hiking, as well as a destination for visiting and learning about the history of Kosovo .

For whom?

Peja will be an interesting direction for you if you want to spend time actively. In Rugova Canyon you can climb (e.g. via via ferratas), hike the mountain trails within it and the peaks of the Prokletije Mountains. You will also like it here if you like sightseeing . Peja has quite a lot of monuments with a rich history.

Recommended accomodations

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.

Hotel Dukagjini

Probably the best hotel in Peja is Hotel Dukagjini. Large, elegant, located close to the river. The room was quite spacious, with a huge, very comfortable bed. The price is quite high, but it is standard when it comes to Kosovo. Fortunately, I also had breakfast as part of my stay. Great bread and many types of cheese were served. Fingers lickin' good!

Green Hostel

What surprised me in Kosovo was the difficulty of finding relatively cheap accommodation. That's why in Peja I decided to stay one night at the Town Hostel. A very atmospheric place with a wonderful view from the terrace of the surrounding mountains. I was alone in the shared dormitory at that time. Generally, apart from me, there were only two tourists there. So I didn't complain.

Guesthouse Stone Bridge

From Peja, my wife and I stayed at the Stone Bridge guesthouse. Very good conditions for reasonable money. All the furniture is new and quite stylish. The guesthouse is in a good location, practically in the very center. The parking lot is located right next to it, so you don't have to worry about where to leave your car.

Hotel Semitronix

At the entrance to the city there is Hotel Semitronix. We got there by accident, looking for something quite late at night. This choice was fine. The hotel is not extraordinary, but it is suitable for one or two nights. The funny thing is that it is located above a shopping mall. But thanks to this, it offers beautiful views. In the morning we had to pick our jaw up from the floor when we looked out the window.
