Sopron , although a small city, surprises with a huge amount of monuments. It is situated on the border of Austria and Hungary. The original medieval street layout and fascinating buildings have been preserved to this day. The most recognizable building and symbol of the city is the six-meter-high Fireman's Tower . It dates back to 1290 and obtained its present baroque shape in the 17th century.

It is worth climbing the 200 steps to the observation deck , which is located on its top, to be able to admire the beautiful panorama of the city. Walking through the atmospheric streets of the old town, surrounded by richly decorated tenement houses, you will certainly easily find the main square with the amazing 18th-century baroque Holy Trinity Column . It is also worth paying attention to the Benedictine church, the historic town hall building, the neo-Gothic church of the Virgin Mary or the baroque Caesar's House. In Sopron, you can also admire the well-preserved fragments of the medieval city walls. There are also many interesting museums, such as the Pharmacy Museum. The Sopron area is also known for the production of Kekfrankos wine . A visit to one of the local restaurants will be an opportunity to try it.

For whom?

If you value the atmosphere of historic, medieval cities, you will surely like the original buildings of the city of Sopron. History enthusiasts will surely be interested in the museums operating there. Additionally, the advantage of Sopron is the fact that it is usually not visited by crowds of tourists. So if you are looking for an intimate and interesting point on the map of Hungary , then you already know where to go.

Sopron Monastery Hotel

Sopron Monastery is one of the most interesting hotels I have ever stayed in. Incredibly restored former monastery. The perfect place to relax a bit. Very good conditions, despite the strict aesthetics. Great service who speaks English and German well. Fantastic food. It's a bit from here to the city center, but the atmosphere in the hotel itself is amazing.

Hotel Wollner

A very good, small hotel located in an old baroque tenement house. The whole thing has, of course, been renovated, but the classic interior style has been retained. The room was ok. The biggest attractions of the historic old town were just a few steps away from the door. The only drawback is the very complicated access to the parking lot.

Pannonia Hotel

Pannonia Hotel is located in a historic building that has been tastefully adapted to modern times. Despite everything, it retained its classic style and character. Due to the fact that it is located in the Old Town, it allowed me and my wife not to waste time commuting to attractions. In the evening we enjoyed spending time on the hotel terrace. It is worth remembering that underground parking is available for an additional fee.

Erhardt Panzió

An intimate guesthouse, located very close to the city's main attractions. A big advantage was private parking, without any additional fees. Our room was located on the street side and unfortunately it was quite noisy. Fortunately, the air conditioning worked, so you could close the window and not listen to the noise. Overall, good conditions for little money. We highly recommend this restaurant. The breakfasts were very good. But it is also worth visiting here for lunch/dinner and ordering local wine.

Hotel Lövér Sopron

The hotel is located on the outskirts of Sopron, in a quiet and very green area. A good place for walks in the forests, and the historical center can be easily and quickly reached by bus. It is not a very modern facility, but I have fond memories of my stay there. The hotel swimming pool came in handy during the hot weather. A good place to relax. It is worth adding that the price of accommodation includes very good breakfasts and dinners served until 9 p.m.
