Hortobagy National Park is the largest and one of the oldest protected areas in Hungary. Within its borders there is Puszta , which is one of the largest grassy steppes in Europe . The unique feature of this place is the emptiness and immutability of landscapes. There are no higher mountains or forests here, but there are huge tracts of grass and the former floodplains of the Tisza River. Wherever you go, you will be able to admire the beauty of nature. There are no bigger cities or factories here.

In the park, mainly in the vicinity of fish ponds, you can observe many interesting species of birds, such as cranes and herons. For centuries, the local vast grassy steppes have been used by shepherds as ideal pastures for animals. The traditional methods of animal husbandry, as well as regional costumes and unique customs, are preserved to this day. Thanks to its natural and cultural wealth, the Hortobagy National Park has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List . The center of the park is the small town of Hortobagy , where you can see, among others, a museum dedicated to pastoralism. Within the park, you will also find several observation towers from which you will be able to observe numerous birds. What's more, there is also a narrow-gauge railway running in the park area. Traveling on it can be an interesting form of exploring Hortobagy.
