Aggtelek , or the Hungarian Karst National Park, is an area with over 200 different caves. Thanks to the unique landscape, both above and below the ground, this region, together with the adjacent Slovak Karst, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List . The main attraction of the park is the famous Baradla Cave , the vast corridors of which are 25 km long in total.

Due to the enormous size and many interesting underground chambers, tourists can visit various options here. The most popular are short tours on fully groomed and illuminated routes that last about an hour. For the more demanding, there are also variants in which the tour lasts up to 5 hours and takes place in the light of the headlamps. In addition, there are three other interesting caves available to tourists in the park, i.e. the Cave of Peace, Rakoczi and Imre Vassa. The area, thanks to the varied landscapes, is also perfect for hiking, biking and horse riding trips. There are numerous hiking trails in the park. It is also worth visiting the largest towns in the region, Aggtelek and Josvafo , which offer good tourist infrastructure.

For whom?

If you are interested in speleology or just like to explore caves, then the Aggtelek region is definitely not to be missed when visiting Hungary. Would you like to try your hand at a more demanding journey into the depths of the earth? Choose the longer option of visiting the Baradla cave. You will be able to admire the natural beauty of the cave in the light of the headlamps. If the summer heat gets tired of you traveling through Hungary, a trip to the cave will be a great option.

A small guesthouse located in the town of Aggtelek, quite close to one of the entrances to the Baradla Cave. Good standard for reasonable money. Our room was small but well equipped and decorated. The garden and public jacuzzi are great. The breakfast was also very good. Definitely a place worth recommending.

An ideal option for low-budget accommodation on the route. Sensible conditions, although you must remember that the bathroom is shared. The location is very good to visit the famous caves the next day. Unfortunately, the owner only speaks Hungarian or German, but you can easily communicate because the man is very nice and communicative.

Boróka Vendégház is a great base for exploring the local national park and famous caves. The room was very clean and equipped with everything you need. Quiet and peaceful area, so you could easily sleep. There is a fridge in the hall. You can also use the well-equipped kitchen. Decent price.

Szakál Vendégház

Szakál Vendégház is a guesthouse located a bit off the beaten path, but close to the entrance to the cave. The room was quite comfortable for the price. A big advantage is the garden where you can organize an evening barbecue. It's worth buying breakfast, it's not expensive and you can eat enough.

A very good choice if someone wants to spend the night while passing through and in the morning visit the cave that is right next to it. Clean, tidy and nice hosts. Before making a reservation, it is worth checking whether the room has a shared or private bathroom, because the price difference is small. Access to a well-equipped kitchen, so we didn't opt for breakfast, which is quite expensive.
