Travemunde is a popular German seaside holiday resort that is now a part of the historic city of Lübeck. It stretches along the Bay of Lübeck and the mouth of the River Trave into the Baltic Sea. Its roots go back to the 12th century. At that time, a fortress was built here to protect the estuary. Already in 1317, Travemunde became a town, and in 1913 it was included within the administrative borders of Lübeck.

Nowadays, most tourists visit the local wide and sandy beaches . The well-kept promenade with numerous restaurants, cafes and bars is an ideal place for a summer walk. Although the weather here is not as certain as in southern Europe, you will be able to feel a real holiday and leisure atmosphere here. Be sure to also see the lighthouse , which dates back to 1539 and is the oldest on the Baltic Sea coast. Its building houses a museum. Another interesting place is the sailing ship Passat , which dates back to 1911 and is a museum ship. From the historic center of Lübeck, you can conveniently get to Travemunde by train or take a scenic cruise. In addition to the beach and tourist attractions, Travemunde is also known as a large ferry port.
